Joe's Digital Workshop

Let's Connect

If you're interested in building things, solving problems, product development, manufacturing, technology, music, exploration, or simply following interesting ideas, I'd be glad to connect.

Joe's Digital Workshop is where those threads come together: work, experiments, creative projects, lessons learned, and whatever I'm curious enough to follow next.

About Joe

Builder, technologist, problem solver.

The through line is not any single subject. It is the habit of making things, solving practical problems, learning from people, and following ideas long enough to see what they become.

I'm Joe Hackman, a lifelong builder, technologist, and problem solver.

I've spent decades working with manufacturers, helping companies connect technology with the real world of machines, people, processes, and production. That work has taken me from IT and systems integration into Smart Manufacturing, product development, automation, data, and the challenge of making old and new technologies work together.

But the workshop has grown well beyond my professional life.

I build software and tools, experiment with AI, design products, make things, produce music, take photographs, write, travel, and spend as much time in the mountains as life allows. A lot of my best ideas seem to arrive somewhere between building something, driving toward the next trailhead, and wondering whether there is a better way to do whatever I'm doing.

Joe's Digital Workshop is where those interests meet.

It is less about any one subject than the habit of staying curious, making things, learning from people, and following interesting ideas far enough to see where they lead.

Current Focus

Product development is near the center of the bench.

Product development is taking up a lot of my attention right now, particularly where software, hardware, manufacturing, automation, and AI can be combined into practical tools.

I'm also continuing to work deeply in Smart Manufacturing while building out Joe's Digital Workshop, developing new software workflows, and producing an increasingly strange and varied catalog of music.

Exploration

The Mountains

I spend a lot of my free time in the mountains.

Sometimes I'm hiking, driving, taking photographs, or just looking for somewhere quiet enough to think. Over time those trips have become part of how I reset, work through ideas, and pay attention to what matters.

They have also found their way into a surprising amount of my creative work, especially the music.

There are worse places to figure out what comes next.

Music

Music & Making

Explore the Music

Music was not part of the original plan for Joe's Digital Workshop.

It started with writing a song for someone I care about and grew into something much larger: fictional artists, albums, stories, artwork, ambient experiments, country songs, science-fiction worlds, and a production workflow built around modern creative tools.

Some songs begin with real experiences. Some are heavily embellished. Some are completely invented.

What interests me is the same thing that interests me everywhere else in the workshop: what can you make when curiosity meets capable tools?

Learning

Always Learning and Experimenting

There is almost always an experiment underway.

Lately that has included product development, AI-assisted software development, automation, manufacturing technology, building my own content tools, producing music, photography, and exploring what becomes possible when one curious person has access to increasingly capable tools.

The subjects change. The pattern really hasn't.

Conversations

People, questions, and ideas worth carrying forward.

I learn a tremendous amount through conversation.

Some of those conversations happen with customers, engineers, friends, makers, musicians, business owners, or people I meet through community work. Others become podcast episodes, articles, songs, projects, or simply ideas that stay with me.

I am especially interested in people who are curious, thoughtful, experienced, and still willing to change their minds.
