The Story Behind Chains of Fortune
I wanted to write about Stoicism without making it sound like a lesson from antiquity. What interested me was how current the central tension still feels. Markets move, reputations shift, fear spreads, power changes hands, and we still have to decide what part of ourselves we are willing to hand over to any of it.
The song grew around the distinction between circumstances and character. Fortune can turn quickly, but the deeper question is whether it gets to dictate your judgment, courage, or conduct. I liked the idea of putting that ancient argument inside a heavier, darker setting where the philosophy feels tested instead of merely quoted.
For Sivra Dark, that became the right frame. The song is not about escaping pressure. It is about remaining responsible for yourself while the pressure is real.
Creative Notes
This one went through unusually wide stylistic tests. I first pushed it toward traditional heavy metal, then toward a more theatrical progressive-metal feel, and later tried a bass-forward folk-rock treatment. The core concept kept surviving those changes, which helped me see that the idea was stronger than any single reference style. I ultimately placed it with Sivra Dark and kept the darker rock and metal identity.
The artwork went through the same narrowing process. I moved away from a literal character treatment and reduced the visual idea to a single torch inside a ring. The torch became a compact symbol for reason, inner light, and resilience, while the ring gave it the feel of a philosophical emblem rather than an illustration of the song.
