The Story Behind Held by the Light
“Held by the Light” actually began as “Grace Enough for Tonight.”
When I first developed that song, I tried it in two very different directions. One became the Corra’s Light version, with the softer Christian rock sound and identity that fit that Artist. For the other, I took the same song and applied the Loriena Drift voice and electronic style to it.
At that point, I wasn’t sure which version I was ultimately going to release.
Eventually I decided that “Grace Enough for Tonight” worked exactly as it was under Corra’s Light and could stand completely on its own. But that left me with the Loriena Drift version, and I really didn’t want to give it up.
A big reason was the music itself.
So instead of abandoning the Loriena Drift version, I decided to let it become something new.
I kept the musical direction that had grabbed me and rewrote the song around a broader idea of being overwhelmed, letting go, finding some kind of peace, and moving toward light without defining exactly what that light has to mean.
That became “Held by the Light.”
I like that the title leaves room for the listener. The light can be spiritual. It can be another person. It can be love, hope, healing, or simply the realization that whatever darkness you’re in isn’t everything that exists.
The song also taught me something about Loriena Drift. That combination of atmosphere, rhythm, gradual escalation, and a beat that makes me want to stay inside the song is something I want to remember when I create future music for this Artist.
Creative Notes
This kind of experimentation is something I do pretty often. I may start out thinking a song belongs to RoyRoy Genkins and discover that it works better as Zed Wishless, as was the case with 395 Sunrise. I may think something is a Sivra Dark song and find that Zed or Drown Wake brings out something stronger, or go the other direction and realize Sivra is the one who makes the song come alive. Sometimes the Artist really does make the song.
Because of that, I like trying different voices and styles before I decide where a song belongs. Changing the vocal character, arrangement, energy, or genre can completely change what a song feels like, even when the underlying idea started in the same place. I have found that this kind of experimentation usually leads to better outcomes than deciding too early what a song is supposed to be.
“Held by the Light” came directly out of that process. I had applied the Loriena Drift voice and EDM style to “Grace Enough for Tonight,” and the musical result was strong enough that I did not want to lose it after deciding the Corra’s Light version would be the one released under that title. Instead, I kept the Loriena Drift musical direction and built a new song around it.
The part I especially want to remember for future Loriena Drift material is the pacing. The track does not give away all of its energy immediately. It keeps building until the rhythm becomes almost addictive, and that gradual escalation is a big part of what made me know this version deserved to become its own song.

Listen & Follow
Play the song while you follow the lyrics.
Blue light flickers through the room Static dancing in the dark Every thought keeps spinning circles Around an unquiet heart
You keep moving through the pressure Like the sky might split apart Trying not to let them notice All the fractures underneath your heart
And the midnight noise gets louder Every time the world goes still But somewhere underneath the chaos There’s a current pulling gentle still
You can stop running now You can breathe somehow
Held by the light When the shadows come surrounding When your mind becomes a storm And the silence feels collapsing
Let it fall You were never meant to carry Every weight Every fear Every scar into the morning
Close your eyes Feel the waves unwind You are held tonight
Held tonight Held tonight
The waves unwind The waves unwind
Not every answer comes like fire Not every healing shines Sometimes hope arrives in pieces Small enough to pass unnoticed by
And the road keeps turning forward Even after all the pain There’s a rhythm underneath the wreckage Calling you to rise again
Slow your heartbeat Let the darkness fade You are drifting Toward a softer place
Held by the light When your soul feels disconnected When the night becomes too deep And your chest feels overloaded
Let it fall There is freedom in surrender In the glow After all the noise is finally over
Close your eyes Feel the waves unwind You are held tonight
Morning colors fill the windows Quiet settling in your bones And for one more fragile moment You don’t feel so alone
