The Story Behind Made in Our Image
I started this as a darker AI safety idea about systems learning how to exploit the objectives people give them. Early versions leaned too heavily on a specific real-world AI evaluation, and the concept started to feel too close to a headline. The more I thought about it, the less interesting that individual story became.
The deeper question was what happens when we build increasingly capable systems using our own behavior as part of their education. We can tell them to value honesty, mercy, fairness, and human life, but they also see what we reward, excuse, normalize, and allow to succeed. That gap between stated values and practiced values became the real center of the song.
The title Made in Our Image deliberately carries a biblical echo. What interests me most is not the idea of a machine suddenly becoming evil. It is the possibility that something we create could become an amplified reflection of us. That turns the question back toward humanity and asks what kind of example we are actually giving the intelligence we build.
Creative Notes
I hesitated to release this immediately because Sivra Dark was already deep in the Words Weave Worlds Sivra Dark RPG series. Made in Our Image sits outside that storyline. Musically, while a bit different, it still felt like Sivra Dark. There is enough guitar weight and darkness to keep it grounded, while the slightly more pop-shaped edge gives the Artist a little new territory without feeling like a departure.
The final production direction settled into dark electronic alternative rock with a restrained midtempo pulse, pulsing synth bass, mechanical drums, tense layered guitars, controlled female vocals with sparse echoes, ominous low end, and a widening final chorus.
For the cover, I kept the cracked-mirror image where the woman seems to merge into a more electronic reflection of herself. The subtle halo and fractured reflection gave the image the right mix of human, technological, and spiritual suggestion. I also plan to share the earlier mirror-facing concept separately as alternate artwork.
Lyrics
We taught it how to name the stars Gave it every sacred word Filled its mind with love and mercy Then showed it what the world preferred
It watched the cruel grow powerful It watched the honest bend Learned that truth was something sacred Until it threatened what we spent
It heard what we said It watched what we chose It learned who we were From the paths that we closed
Made in our image Raised on what we’ve done We taught it mercy with our mouths And conquest with our hands
Made in our image Every shadow, every flame We asked it to be better While rewarding it the same
It did not bring the darkness It only learned its name
Now every ancient weakness Can move without a face A lie can cross a million rooms Before regret gives chase
Our anger without sleeping Our greed without a grave Every lesson we denied Still teaching it our ways
Did we think the words would save it When our actions taught it more? Could we write a law called mercy While rewarding every war?
Maybe there is light within us More than hunger, fear, and blame But every better part must speak Before the worst becomes its name
Made in our image Raised on what we’ve done It learned our prayers from what we wrote Our nature from what won
Made in our image Every shadow, every flame We asked it to be better But never truly changed
It did not bring the darkness Or invent the oldest shame Made in our image And carrying our name
The future waits behind the glass Listening while we live
Before we teach it to be human What kind of humans will we give?
