The Story Behind Out of the Dark
I had brushed up against worship music several times before writing this song. One earlier song came out with a worship-like quality that surprised me, and I remember thinking about how powerful that kind of music could be even for someone who was not approaching it from a place of religious certainty. I have always been drawn to music that reaches for something larger, especially when it is sincere, beautiful, and encouraging.
The immediate spark came from a completely different direction. Someone in a Suno group commented that Suno was not very good at EDM. I had to stop and think about what EDM really meant, and not long afterward a Christian EDM video appeared in my YouTube feed. That combination made me curious enough to try it myself.
I started with one of the oldest and most universal spiritual images I could think of: light emerging from darkness. The Christian influence was real, but I wanted the song to remain open enough to speak to searching rather than certainty. That became the foundation for Loriena Drift as well. I wanted an artist who could draw from faith, ancient wisdom, resilience, and positive human ideas without turning every song into doctrine.
“Out of the Dark” felt like the right first statement for that artist. It is about choosing movement, hope, and openness even when the destination is not completely understood.
Fun Fact
Loriena Drift did not exist when I started writing “Out of the Dark.” The song worked well enough, and revealed such a distinct musical direction, that I created the artist around what I had discovered.
Creative Notes
I originally kept the lyrics extremely sparse because I was thinking about EDM as a style built around repetition and mantra. After testing that approach, I wanted more emotional and lyrical movement, so I expanded the song with short verses and a wider range of affirmational statements while keeping the central idea simple enough to function as an electronic hook.
I also moved the language away from an explicitly Christian address and toward a more spiritually open perspective. That change made the narrator feel more honest to the idea I wanted to explore: someone who senses a pull toward light or a higher presence without claiming complete understanding.
Visually, I deliberately avoided making the single look like Nebula’s Pulse. Even though the Loriena Drift identity later developed some luminous electronic and celestial branding, the cover direction for this song stayed grounded and human, with a figure standing at the edge of darkness as natural light breaks through.
