The Story Behind Severed Arc
I had been thinking about how easy it is to turn a difficult situation into a verdict. The more I sat with that, the more interested I became in a different question: what does it mean to stay present when you cannot fully understand, fix, or control what another person is carrying?
The image that unlocked the song was simple. Open hands holding a small flame in the wind. The flame was fragile, but it was still alive. From there came the idea of a severed arc, a path interrupted before it could complete its expected shape, with some trace of warmth and motion still remaining.
I wanted the song to hold compassion and discomfort at the same time. Not every situation resolves cleanly. Sometimes the most honest thing is to resist the urge to simplify people into right and wrong, and to remain human in the middle of uncertainty.
Creative Notes
This became a Sivra Dark song because the concept needed more abstraction and restraint than a literal narrative. I kept the writing centered on a small vocabulary of images: arc, flame, wind, hands, shadow, and open space. That gave the song room to stay emotionally direct without becoming explanatory.
The artwork followed the same logic. The visual direction used shadowed open hands, a small ember-like flame, a fractured glowing arc, and a dark star field in deep blues and blacks with warm orange light. I also revised the title treatment so SEVERED ARC would sit closer to the bold condensed typography used on earlier Sivra Dark covers.

The arc was bending toward a horizon No one marked no one named Then something fractured mid curve And the sky never asked why I found the heat still breathing Between what was said and what wasn’t A small defiance of dark Trembling but alive
I don’t curse the wind I don’t praise the flame I just stand where both still meet
So I hold the fire in the open Hands bare against the cold Not to save it from the ending Just to keep it known If it dims it dims in truth If it burns it burns seen A severed arc A living spark In the long wind between
Two shadows lean into the same night Carrying different weights One keeps watch through the quiet hours One keeps moving to stay awake There’s love in the way silence stays And love in the way it breaks Nothing here is innocent Nothing here is cruel
I don’t name the fault I don’t choose a side I won’t turn away from either life
So I hold the fire in the open Where the air can’t lie Not to shield it from the weather Not to ask it why If it flickers let it flicker If it fades let it mean A severed arc A living spark In the long wind between
The hands will scar The night will take its share Holding costs more than leaving But leaving isn’t clean I learned love doesn’t fix the ending It only stays Long enough To witness what has been
No altar No verdict No final frame
I hold the fire in the open Until I can’t anymore Not as keeper Not as judge Just a body in the storm If it goes it goes as warmth If it stays it stays as need A severed arc A living spark Held briefly Between
Between breath and letting go Between the dark and what we mean
