The Inkbound Gate

A single by Sivra Dark. I take Sivra Dark into a fantasy RPG-inspired world for the opening chapter of a planned ten-song story, keeping her dark alternative metal identity while pushing it into cinematic worldbuilding, mystery, and adventure.

The Story Behind The Inkbound Gate

This project started visually before it became a song. I found an image online with an ornate fantasy-book aesthetic that caught my attention, and I started experimenting with what that kind of imagery might look like if I pulled it into Sivra Dark’s world. The source image was only a spark. It was not the blueprint for the final cover, but it opened a door creatively.

That experiment quickly turned into something much larger. I started imagining a fantasy RPG-inspired universe built around language, stories, choices, identity, and the idea that words can have real power. From there I mapped out a ten-song sequence, with The Inkbound Gate as the opening chapter.

I like that this is a departure for Sivra without abandoning what makes her recognizable. The setting is fantasy, but the emotional center is still very much hers: curiosity, tension, danger, choice, and the refusal to let somebody else’s boundaries decide what comes next. I plan to let each song stand on its own as a single while also building toward the larger Words Weave Worlds sequence.

Creative Notes

The first lyric draft was much more expansive and read almost like a full narrative suite. I deliberately compressed it so the song could function as a metal track first, leaving more room for repetition, instrumental development, and atmosphere. I tested an even shorter third pass, but the second version had the balance I wanted, enough story to establish the world without overloading the arrangement.

Musically, I kept the direction anchored in dark cinematic alternative metal with gothic and progressive-rock atmosphere. I specifically wanted to avoid drifting into campy power-metal fantasy styling. The artwork followed the same rule. I kept Sivra’s established black-leather, dark-rock identity and built the fantasy world around her. The final grimoire artwork was also revised so its engraved imagery came from this song’s own visual language rather than simply reusing the original inspiration image.

Listen & Follow

Play the song while you follow the lyrics.

Found it buried under dust Leather split and black with age No name no mark no history Just wet ink across the page

The margins moved when I looked away A new line formed beneath my hand It spoke of towers under foreign moons Black rivers through a silver land

The room went cold The candle bent A distant bell From nowhere rang

One line waiting One way back I gave the silence language Something answered back

Every word became a doorway Ink ran black across the floor I could close the book and leave it I could choose to know no more

But there are truths that turn to choices Once you’ve looked beyond the page I spoke the final line aloud And opened the Inkbound Gate

Letters lifted from the paper Twisting slowly through the air Roots broke through the wooden floor And foreign stars were burning there

Two moons hung above the mountains Torchlight moved along a road I knew enough to stop the reading Still I needed one line more

Every word became a doorway Ink ran black across the floor I could close the book and leave it I could choose to know no more

But there are truths that turn to choices Once you’ve looked beyond the page I spoke the final line aloud And opened the Inkbound Gate

I am not a line you finish I am not a word you own If there’s something past the boundary I would rather see than know

Say it Mean it Let the old world fall away

Read it Speak it Open up the gate

Every word became a doorway Night unfolded into shape I left the candle burning And stepped through the Inkbound Gate

No prophecy No hand of fate I saw the line I chose the Gate

Cold earth beneath my feet Two moons above

Behind me one last page

And then she entered
