The Story Behind The Monster Knows My Voice
I wanted the fifth chapter of Words Weave Worlds to change the kind of danger Sivra was facing. The earlier songs had taught her to survive strange rules involving names, memory, and perception. This one needed to feel closer, quieter, and harder to separate from herself.
The idea that unlocked it for me was the difference between having a thought and accepting that thought as truth. I liked the fantasy possibility of giving that tension a presence inside the world, something intimate enough to know exactly where doubt already lives and familiar enough to sound convincing.
That made this chapter an important turn in the larger story. Sivra is no longer only learning how the world works. She is beginning to learn that recognition is not the same as truth, and that something does not gain authority over her simply because it speaks in a familiar voice.
Creative Notes
I deliberately kept the musical direction psychological rather than aggressive, with a notable exception late in the song. The vocal approach stayed clean and (mostly) controlled, with the weight coming from atmosphere, bass, guitars, space, and tension.
The cover development went through several mirror-heavy and gothic versions before I realized I was repeating too much of the visual language from the surrounding releases. I moved toward a much simpler symbolic image instead: Sivra walking across a pale, empty landscape while her shadow behaves independently of her. That gave the song its own visual identity without breaking the larger album world.

The mirror moved before I did Then settled back in place I blamed the crown the candlelight The shadows on my face
We left the palace before dawn He asked why I looked pale I heard myself say nothing’s wrong
Then heard it from the trail
Same breath Same tone Every word like my own
He turned and asked What did you hear?
I said You didn’t?
The monster knows my voice Knows every word I use It doesn’t have to tell a lie It only has to choose
The fear I almost listened to The doubt I almost named It sounds enough like me To make me think we’re the same
But I am not every thought That speaks inside my head The monster knows my voice
That doesn’t make it me
It learned the places I look back The questions I repeat It knew which failures still had names Which doors I couldn’t leave
It never shouted Never threatened Never needed claws or teeth
It only took what I already feared And handed it to me
You’ll fail again You know you will They’ll leave when they can see you still
I stopped
That wasn’t prophecy
It only knew What frightened me
The monster knows my voice Knows every word I use It doesn’t have to tell a lie It only has to choose
The fear I almost listened to The doubt I almost named It sounds enough like me To make me think we’re the same
But I am not every thought That speaks inside my head The monster knows my voice
That doesn’t make it me
I argued It grew louder
I fought it It grew strong
I tried to prove it wrong And gave it somewhere to belong
So I let the silence answer Let the accusation fall
A voice can sound exactly like mine
And still know nothing About me at all
Speak
I don’t owe you an answer
Speak
I don’t owe you belief
Wear my voice Wear my face
You are still Not me
The monster knows my voice But now I know it too A thought can enter wearing truth And still not make it true
The fear can sound familiar The doubt can know my name I don’t have to kill the voice
To know we’re not the same
The monster knows my voice
Let it speak
I’m walking anyway
He asked me once more What I could hear
I said
Myself
And kept walking
