The Story Behind Love Without Rescue
I started with a question that sounds simple until you actually sit with it: what does love mean when you cannot rescue someone?
There are times when helping is possible, and there are times when trying to help can become control, enabling, or an attempt to carry something that belongs to another person. There are also situations where no amount of strength, loyalty, or good intention can change the outcome. What interested me was the space between those realities.
I wanted the song to stay there without pretending that love fixes everything. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer is presence. We can stay close, tell the truth, keep a light on, and refuse to look away. That may not be rescue, but it still matters.
Creative Notes
I moved the song toward simple water imagery because it could hold several meanings at once. Shoreline, current, light, and a reaching hand all worked without forcing the song into one specific kind of relationship.
The visual direction followed the same idea. The cover centers on one person underwater reaching upward while another hand reaches down from the surface. I later brought the Drown Wake branding in line with the heavier metallic logo language used on other releases.
